About Us

The Taste of Huntington Beach is much-loved community event, raising funds for the Friends of the Children’s Library.

The Friends of the Children's Library (FOTCL) is an all-volunteer group that supports the Children's Department of the Huntington Beach Public Library. We sponsor a variety of educational and informative activities for children in our community throughout the year. We are 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Since 2001, the Taste has raised over $650,000 for the Children’s Department of our Public Library. For more information, visit www.fotcl.org.

  • Books for the children’s departments at all branches of the Huntington Beach Library
  • Monthly educational and entertaining programs: plays, puppet shows, ballets and musical events
  • A yearly Authors Festival that brings children’s authors to students at local schools
  • Annual Writing & Illustrating Contest, recognizing young authors & illustrators for their creativity, originality, and imaginations
  • Festival of Folktales in June with games and shows to kick off the Summer Reading Program
  • The annual Summer Reading Program; over 5,000 students read books in the summer of 2018
  • Special events such as writing workshops and author programs at the branches 
  • Storytelling and Reading program (STAR) where volunteers read weekly to children at all branches
  • Infrastructure in the Children’s Library, such as shelving, carpeting and upgraded sound systems
  • Computers and electronic media, used frequently for the homework help
